Art Nouveau

Here’s an interesting documentary about the history of Art Nouveau.  Art Nouveau is one of my favorite eras of art.  Art Nouveau is described as: an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied arts—especially the decorative arts—that was most popular during 1890–1910.

Art Nouveau was a reaction to academic art of the 19th century, it was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants, but also in curved lines.

Art Nouveau is considered a “total” art style, embracing architecture, graphic art, interior design, and most of the decorative arts including jewelry, furniture, textiles, household silver and other utensils and lighting, as well as the fine arts.

To me, Art Nouveau was the bridge between traditional art and modern art.

My only criticism of this documentary is that my two favorite artists of this era, Alphonse Mucha and Toulouse Lautrec are not talked about much here. But still, if you’d like to learn about this era in art history it’s still a good documentary.
